After destroying a second Ignition Coil this weekend I am considering a new tack. The second brand new Flame Thrower coil only lasted half a dozen passes then packed up, ruining my day on Monday. I have been looking into what causes coil failure other than the failure of another ignition part and have found that dwell and high revs are a significant factor. I am changing gear at 7K which means the coil has to charge up pretty quickly between sparks. I believe that many racers get around this problem by using a CD Ignition System. The MSD 6 series seems to be the most popular, does anybody here have any experience of this system that they could share with me?

Many thanks, George

I run an MSD 6AL with MSD dizzy. Ive not experienced any problems in the many years Ive run this set up. I know that the pickup in the dizzy can fail. It also uses quite a lot of battery so a good alternator is needed.
