right after me sayin weeks ago i was pickin up a new car to race/daily drive and replace my fiesta i finally picked her up yesterday which was a experience!!!

here she was looking sad and unloved

Image

then after a phone call from my misses sayin where i live was pooring with snow we got from a farm in March to the birchanger services looking like this

Image

then the M11 come to a stop 5 miles from the harlow slip and once we got through worked out which country lane to my mates yard would be the more likely to get through, my mate suggested the closest one to which i said really!! knowing theres a massive hill half way down it. It looked like this

Image

haha so we drive along and everyone coming the other way warn us that the hills blocked! we get there and my mate helpfully says opps realising he had forgotten how steep the hill was, anyways we watch a defender pull a stcuk transit up the hill and go for it! all goes well until we hit the ice formed by the stuck transit, heres were it gets fun! my mate cant drive in snow as i realise so a throw him out the truck and to pushin dutys. i get it straight after he turned the truck into a hedge and ditch and reversed to the bottom of the hill to have ago, i got near the top but no good and got stuck. then some lovely pols turn up and throw plaster powder under the wheels and off we went.

anyways the car ended up here

Image

and there she will stay for 2 weeks while my mate goes to spain the christmas so i dont no how good or bad the car is, i no it runs but the 1.1 4 speed aint gonna be much cop at the track so the plan is get her on the road after her 12 years break and fit my 2 litre zetec engine, then save up for 5.0 V8 FORD!! and the rear axle and the rest of the gubbins to make her into a right wheel drive small tubbed racer. time will tell

cool ken .. not my cuppa tea but it'll look cool and is a moden day classic ... if i was u id start out looking for the v8 now and not bother with the zetech... by the time you've messed about fitting and modding to make it fit you could of done the v8 conversion just as cheep and itll be what you really want from the start. you can buy a cheep v8 yank for around a grand and use all the running gear.. get cutting and welding and forget the 4 banger mate... my 1st v8 cortina cost me less than £2000 to put together.. i brought a scrap camero and used the running gear. to be fair i started off with a rwd car to start with but it can be done...

good luck chap

only reason il 2 litre it is itll probly do the same fuel and i have everything already for the convertion and secretly i might try selling it to fund a fox body on the cheap then i dont need to convert it. car only knocked me £450 so il make do with it for now with my budget of £0 lol. i just wanted somethin simple to play with and i have been shocked by the response i got on facebook, i was expecting alot of whys? but instead got alot of likes and even a offer to sell it

Excuse my lack of knowledge on this, but have Mk3 Escorts suddenly became rare and had a price hike?

Just curious really as £450 'to me' seems like a load of dough for an 80's escort that hasn't moved in 12 years, plus reading your post about the journey seems like you committed to a fair old mission to capture the car..

Reason I ask is over the years we've had a couple of Mk3's as stop gaps, last one I actually brought for 'shell as a punishment for not looking after her daily yank (sorry Ken) and made her run it for 6 months (this would have been about 6 years ago) it was a one owner A reg, 1.6 ghia, that was mint with from memory about 34k on the clock, I sold it to a local farm lad (who wanted it to go to classic car shows in) for about £500 if I remember right, in fact it's still locol I think.

I also happen to know where there's a farm (not far from where you got yours from) that has an empty grain store packed with 80's escorts, orions etc that belongs to an old farmer who likes to tinker with motors..

they are gettin popular again, i got it just as a new home for my engine as my fiesta is to small for me. i wanted something old, simple and within budget of what i got for my black fiesta. its just something different for me and i wanted a car the same age as me. i still havent been up to the car since that fine saturday of snow and its gonna be up for sale as soon as its legal at a piss take price to see if some mad person will buy it. if not 2 litre will go in and il enjoy some sleeper style fun

its also a learning car for me, something old and something i can make mistakes on and not worry about it to much. i have learnt mechanical bits a pieces over the years but never bodywork and welding so this is my canvas
