Outlaw Street 2013 Race Series OS-5

26th – 28th July 2013 ‘’MOPAR Euro Nationals’ weekend at Santa Pod Raceway

Whether you own a muscle car or not the MOPARs has always been THE event to attend if you’re passionate about American V8’s, this year was no exception, and although the gates didn’t open until Friday morning several OS members were camped up outside the gates from Thursday afternoon keen to squeeze every last drop of life out of the weekend.

Due to a number of engine fails and mid season car changes Outlaw numbers were down slightly on previous years, however there were still over 20 cars racing for the weekend and a good 25 members plus in attendance.

The combination of warm weather and a sticky track brought PB’s for some and early trailers home for others, sadly OS-37 Chris Richards who was currently top of the leader board suffered an engine failure that’s going to wipe him out for the rest of season, also fighting mechanical gremlins all weekend were OS-57 Rob Slater in his ’57 Chevy and OS-48 Martin Green in his big block Chevy Consul, those with happier faces were OS-35 Tom Semper in his freshly supercharged Anglia and OS-45 Kevin Shepperson in his RS2000 Escort.

The highest round point’s scorer from the weekend and winner of a years’ free subscription to American Car and a MissB Engraving etched brandy glass was;

OS-31 Nick Rose in his supercharged Mustang who secured 219 points.

The top 6 points scorers of OS-5 were:
1. OS-31 Nick Rose in his supercharged Mustang with 219 points
2. OS-07 Andy Murton in his 540 V8 powered Camaro with 218 points
3. OS-27 Trudy Slater in her Cosworth powered Morris Minor with 216 points
3. OS-48 Kevin Shepperson in his Ford Escort with 216 points
5. OS-22 Steve Moisey in his Cervini Mustang with 215 points
6. OS-57 Rob Slater in his ’57 Chevy with 214 points

It's really starting to look this season as if ‘David is going to kick Goliaths butt’, with the RT trophies, there were several members out this weekend trying to secure a Joe & Co RT Trophy and prize money, but as always there's only one winner and;

OS-35 Tom Semper in his Anglia bagging his second RT Trophy of the season with a 0.0142 RT

The top 6 RT's over the weekend were:

1. OS-35 Tom Semper in his supercharged Anglia with a 0.0142 RT
2. OS-21 George Bebikan in his big block powered Zephyr with a 0.1588 RT
3. OS-16 John Edwards in his 347 powered Mustang with a 0.1642 RT
4. OS-27 Trudy Slater in her Cosworth powered Morris Minor with a 0.1710 RT
5. OS-40 Steve Newport Hall in his ’66 Cobra with a 0.2127 RT
6. OS-56 Doug Harwood in his LT1 powered Pontiac Trans-Am with a 0.2130 RT

That's 0.15 of a second separating the top 3.

The Outlaw Street-2013 Series ‘League Table’ top 12 now looks like this:
1. OS-31 Nick Rose in his supercharged convertible Mustang with 882 points
2. OS-37 Chris Richards in his turbo’d Mustang with 870 points
3. OS-40 Steve Newport Hall in his 1966 Cobra with 864 points
4. OS-12 John Latham in his PT ‘Vanster’ with 830 points
5. OS-07 Andy Murton in his big block Camaro with 684 points
6. OS-43 Derren Brown in his small block powered Escort 663 points
7. OS-9 Rob Leyman in his LS1 powered Vauxhall Monaro with 652 points
8. OS-42 Nigel Jenkins in his Ford Mustang with 646 points
9. OS-18 Vic Fisher in his V6 supercharged Mustang with 636 points
10. OS-16 John Edwards in his 347 powered Mustang with 631 points
11. OS-56 Doug Harwood in his LT1 powered Pontiac Trans-Am with 629 points
12. OS-22 Steve Moisey in his Cervini Mustang with 455 points
12. OS-42 Kevin Shepperson in his RS2000 Escort with 455 points

With 4 rounds still to go this season and the top six changing every month this really is going to be an open field this year, to see the whole league table and more information about Outlaw Street check out http://www.outlawstreet.co.uk

The next round of the Outlaw Street series, OS-6 takes place at the ‘God of the Pod’ weekend at Santa Pod Raceway on the 17th – 18th August.

I was invited last year by SPR to 'check out' God of the Pod an see if it was an event I'd run OS at, last year was there first year, but;

1. The track is FULLY prepped
2. The longest I saw the fire up queue was to the pedestrian crossing!
3. The event although aimed at the Jap car scene was really an older an serious racer event with virtually no 'boy racers' at it.

Which is why I felt it'd be a good meet for us.

Oh plus EVERY member can run at this event whether their choice of weapon be old skool yank or high tech Jap.

As for track time I need to confirm with James if its open RWYB or time slots, an will let you know asap.
