Outlaw Street OS-6 Race Report

29th July – 1st August at ‘MOPAR’s’ weekend Santa Pod Raceway
The Outlaw Street sixth meet of 2011 was held over the legendary MOPARs weekend at Santa Pod Raceway, the MOPARs is they MUST ATTEND event for any American Muscle car fan and a long standing firm favourite for all Outlaw Street members.

Over the course of the three days over 25 members attended putting their cars through their paces down the track with another 10+ members who came along minus cars due to either breaks or ongoing restoration projects to simply soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the racing.

Clearly the sun gods are muscle car fans as the weather was glorious all weekend and made for some great track conditions (& suntans). There was plenty of track time all weekend with many members racking runs up into double figures, trying to chase that elusive new PB or Reaction Trophy.

For several members the MOPARS was their first outing for the 2011 Outlaw Street season, & they couldn’t have picked a better weekend to ‘shake off the racing cobwebs’, first time shows included Allan Matthews in his stunning ’69 Fastback Mustang, Spencer Chittenden in his equally amazing ’69 Fastback, Andy Bond in his Street Eliminator prepped Mustang, Chris Richards in his Longley awaited twin turbo Mustang & Phil Davey in his truly unique Morris.

The American Car magazine, year’s free subscription was won by Ian Mather in his OS-2 ‘Apple’ Pro Street Escort with 221 points for the weekend, this was a fitting win for Ian who was in his final outing in the car before it passes onto new owners.

Everyone was seriously competing to try and win one of the ‘Joe & Co’ sponsored RT Trophies over the weekend with only 0.0674 of a second splitting 1st and 6th place.

The trophy in the end being split by a truly amazing difference of 0.0095’s of a second between second place contender Trudy Slater in her Cosworth powered Morris Minor and winner Rob Slater in his pro-street ’57 Chevy, yes that’s right Trudy & Rob are a husband & wife team who both run their own cars in the series, (not sure I’d want to be in Rob’s shoes when Trudy finds out he’s stolen the trophy from under her nose).

Reaction Times
OS-21 Rob Slater in his ’57 Chevy with a 0.0328 RT
OS-27 Trudy Slater in her Morris Minor with a 0.0423 RT
OS-42 Nigel Jenkins in his supercharged Mustang with a 0.0461 RT
OS-50 Roy Collins in his big block ‘70’s Camaro with a 0.0563 RT
OS-33 Jeff Thurston in his pro street Mustang with a 0.0811 RT
OS-18 Vic Fisher in his supercharged Mustang with a 0.1002 RT

The points table as of round OS-6 is:

2011 Points Table as of Round 6
OS-26 Steve Adams in his 1999 Mustang 1072 Points
OS-18 Vic Fisher in his Supercharged Mustang 1056 Points
OS-07 Andrew Murton in his 1968 Camaro 906 Points
OS-42 Nigel Jenkins in his Supercharged Mustang 853 Points
OS-13 Stuart Ramsay in his 1967 Camaro 694 Points
OS-46 Phil Davey in his Fox body Mustang 668 Points

With only 404 points separating the top 6 and 200+ points available at each round with three more rounds to go this season there is everything to race for.

The next round of Outlaw Street OS-7 is on 3rd – 4th September at Santa Pod Raceway.
