Outlaw Street 2014 Race Series
Report by Mark Wallington

OS-8
Flame & Thunder Weekend
At Santa Pod Raceway
Saturday 25th October to 26th October

With this being the 'big one' not only the final round of Outlaw Street for 2014 but also Santa Pod's big final race meet of the season everyone was geared up for a big weekend hoping to squeeze in that one last PB of the year and maybe even secure a trophy.

The Saturday of Flame & Thunder is an invitation/demonstration event where all cars had to run below an 11.99PB to enter, this meant several members had been pushing hard at OS-6 and OS-7 to try and reach this and secure a place at OS-8.

11 cars ran on the Saturday, having the opportunity to run in front of the sort of crowds normally only seen at Pro-Mod events, which for some caused a bit of 'stage fright' with their gear changes and RT's effected by the massive crowds watching them race.

The Sunday is a RYWB entry which allows all those unable to get under the 11.00's to rack up those last round points, out at OS-8 trying to crack new PB's for the last weekend of the year were last years winner OS-31 Nick Rose in his Mustang, as well as previous 3 time winner OS-7 Andrew Murton in his '68 Camaro, chasing the points this season and chasing each others RT's were this seasons top contenders OS-19 David Mahoney in his supercharged C5 Corvette and OS-27 Trudy Slater in her Morris Minor.

There were a number of other 'mini battles' going on over the weekend including between father & son team OS-45 Kev and OS-61 Linden Shepperson both trying to 'pip' the other in RT's and in ET's with their pair of super clean highly modified MkII Escorts. This season being Lindens first in drag racing but it's pretty clear the bug has already bitten him quite hard and expect to see many a battle and broken part from him next season.

At each main points scoring round of the 2014 series the highest points scorer for the meet will win a years FREE subscription to American Car magazine.

The top scorers at OS-8 resulted in a draw with both OS-19 David Mahoney in his LS1 supercharged Corvette and OS-61 Linden Shepperson in his MKII Escort (a real David & Goliath of engine matches if ever there was) scoring 221 points.

The subscription being awarded to OS-61 Linden as David had already secured one earlier in the season.

The OS-8 Joe & Co sponsored Reaction Time trophy was as ever fearlessly contended for by members, however this season has seen a new RT King (or should I say Queen) emerge with:

OS-27 Trudy Slater securing her 4th RT trophy of the season with a very impressive 0.07877 RT.

In next months edition we'll announce who this seasons winners were in all of the categories and give a prequel of what's already in place for the 2015 series.

Magazine is now on the shelves for anyone who doesn't subscribe, prize night article is going to print next week and will then be in next months edition.

Then it's roll on into the 2015 series with a one month break from writing then a 'pre-qual' article for what 2015 has to offer and we'll be back into OS-1 write ups and photos.
